I've been following your writing for over eight years and this is one of my all time favorite pieces you've published. I love your recipes, but the way you write about life, family and culture really resonates. Please tell me there's another book in the works!

Thank you so much, these comments mean the world to me! I am so happy to hear that these kind of stories hot the right notes. And of course thank you SO much for being there since forever!

I do have another book in the works, and I think it's beautiful!! I just need to see if there's someone willing to publish it 😬🤞🏻

Another moving and beautifully written piece Valentina as you continue to bring her spirit forward in this world. It’s funny my mother-in-law has similar agendas where she has recorded her recipes over the years and it is incredible but the handwriting is nearly identical. She also faced the Germans as a child, barely escaping death from guns, at times fleeing to the mountains to live off of foraged food. The men and woman from this time were incredibly resilient and cut from another cloth. And this also in you.

I read about the antifascist camps for children when I was in Cervia this summer! So interesting. This is such a beautiful, touching tribute to your nonna, Valentina.

I don’t know if they extend all the way up to Cervia. If you’ve never seen them, google ‘colonie Rimini’. Aren’t they an eyesore?

So ugly! There's one in Cervia just set behind the pinarella where I'd go running with Coco!

What a wonderful homage to yet another strong woman, Valentina! You carry her everyday--in your words, and work, your photographs, and the food you cook. That unbroken thread ! Brava.

Always an enjoyable read and such a lovely tribute to your family. What an interesting life they led, albeit they may not have thought so at the time. Grazie.

Such a moving post, thank you for sharing your Nonna’s inspiring story. I was so moved by the reference to snatched moments for future generations - you are the continuation of her story both in your cooking and photography. I laughed at the repurposed (of course!) agenda as both my nonna and abuela also used those unfilled castaways to fill with recipes that I wish now had been written in lovely new notebooks. But at least we have something!
